I have the same problem on a Vaio VPCCW1S1E whic uses:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GT216 [GeForce GT 230M] (rev a2)

at the moment I cannot use driver nouveau (which actually cause my screen going black and making laptop useless) and probably cannot give useful report.
As for the message #24 I installed on another kernel (2.6.31 the binary nvidia driver).

Trying to load kernel 2.6.32-22 (the one which has nouveau installed and

When loading this kernel, everything goes black when the following line appears (just for a moment)

The system seems to be working in the background, but it is
unresponsive.
