Yes please, do reboot.

1) Rename xorg.conf.
2) Reboot.
3) Configure monitors with g-d-p.
4) Reboot (or logout/login should work) to reproduce the issue.

If it's still broken, please attach the new /var/log/Xorg.0.log from
this attempt. Thank you!
