[Bug 579948] [NEW] [KM400] Ubuntu Lucid Lynx KDE desktop crashes on login
You have been subscribed to a public bug:
Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace
New to reporting bug.
I upgraded from Ubuntu Hardy LTS to Lucid. Then added KDE4 desktop
using synaptic package manager but , unable to log-in to KDE as it
crashes after showing the plasma desktop. It goes upto first three icons
& then reverts back to Ubuntu login screen. There is no problem while
logging in with GNOME
Tried again by creating a new user (with admin rights). Same problem.
However when one of the users is logged-in with GNOME, I can switch to a different user WITH KDE desktop.(without logging out the GNOME user),
Following Step taken so far have not yielded any result.
1. Reinstalled all KDE modules (base, workspace , plasma etc.)
2. Performed an upgrade from Kubuntu Lucid alternate CD image.
3. Tried with system restart after every change / re-installation.
4. Tried with safe mode , repair broken packages (no broken packages reported)
System Info:
AMD sempron 2400, Asus Mobo with via KM400 chipset,
1.25 GM DDR RAM, IDE 160 GB HDD , DVD WR
Dual boot windows xp pro & Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with KDE 4.4 added as an additional desktop manager
(using grub),
