OK problem fixed for me.

What I needed to do was:

cd /usr/include
mv linux linux_SAVE
mv asm asm_SAVE
ln -s /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.32-23-server/include/linux
ln -s /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.32-23-server/include/asm

Then apt-get insall nvidia-current worked fine.
