** Description changed:

- Ok Sat, i update the sytem and I boot up and found this suprise is in my
- Xorg.0.log
- 
  Fatal Server Error:  xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted
  system call
  
- symptoms:
- stuck at command prompt,
+ symptoms: stuck at command prompt,
+ possible not starting any graphical mode nor console (stuck at the boot-splash blue screen)
+ and alt+ctrl+F1..F8 not able to switch to any text nor any graphical mode.
  
- relaveant system info
- AMD x64
- drivers: fglrx for ati radeon 4350
+ example affected systems: 
+ karmic fully updated AMD x64 drivers: fglrx for ati radeon 4350
+ lucid fully updated AMD x64 dual core, radeon 3000
+ 
+ error message: the /var/log/X.org.log will contain near end text:
+   Fatal server error:
+   xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted system call
+ 
+ workaround: 
+    1. in file /etc/init/kdm.conf insert a "sleep 1" before the "exec kdm" line.  - and then restart the machine fully
+ -or/and-
+   1.  stop all X  (as root:  stop gdm ; stop kdm ; killall X ; kill `pidof X` ; killall startx)
+   2. after editing the file as above, instead restarting entire system,  use alt+SysRq+R   alt+SysRq+K  magic combo keys on keyboard to restore non-X keyboard, use alt+ctrl+F1..F8 to get the defunct X mod, click there option to restart X.
