Tested Steve's test linux-image-2.6.32-24-generic_2.6.32-24.38_i386.deb
with the upstream patch on my 8440p (with Intel integrated graphics),
unfortunately the issue is not resolved by this kernel, black screen.
Back to using Karmic 2.6.31-22 kernel
