[Bug 586090] Re: [i945g] X fails to start

 

 Many thanks for the tip. I've finally managed to install the mainline kernel. However, it does not solve the problem, or, to be specific, regenerates an old one: I can login now, but X stops abruptly without warning, showing a black screen with the following message: "the screen, graphics card, and input device settings could not be detected correctly". I can only log back in safe graphics mode, and all session data is lost. I had previously filed that same behavior here in launchpad under bug #579653, before I experienced bug #586090 (this one we're working on).
  Since a proposed solution for bug #579653 was also to install the mainline kernel, I'll file the results there too. Thanks again.
