[Bug 604855] [NEW] [Lucid] i845G Crash After Login Screen

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Recently I have upgraded from Ubuntu 9 to 10.04

After upgrading , I am facing a lot of problems.

I am unable to use the system

After booting, during the initial login screen, I am able to see mouse
cursor and use mouse for navigating.

But once login is over, the mouse cursor disappears and I can not use
mouse.

If I type the command sudo lshw -c display in the terminal, then I can
able to use mouse.

This is the command out put when i use the above mentioned command.

root@natarajan-desktop:/home/natarajan# lshw -c display
  *-display UNCLAIMED
       description: VGA compatible controller
product: 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device
       vendor: Intel Corporation
       physical id: 2
       bus info: pci@0000:00:02.0
       version: 03
       width: 32 bits
       clock: 33MHz
       capabilities: pm bus_master cap_list
       configuration: latency=0
       resources: memory:e0000000-e7ffffff(prefetchable) memory:ea000000-ea07fff

The pity is after some time, the system behaves erratically.

The display is garbled. I can see only lines and flashes and flickers in
the screen.

and I am unable to use the key board also.

Then I have to restart or shutdown the system.

Ubuntu is free. I accept it.

But it it is not able to work correctly , then why are you releasing
it?

I am using Ubuntu starting from the version 8 , and 9. So far no issues.

So Ubuntu 9 is able to work well in my hardware . If Ubuntu 10 will not
work in my hardware, I should be warned or prevented from upgrading.

Now I am unable to use the system. Either I have to format or go for
another OS.

And I am not able to get help from where I have to report , what are the
temporary work arounds, whether this bug will be solved or not.

It will the confidence over the open source Operating system.

Can u guide me what to do next?

Thanks

R.Natarajan
