A couple of days ago I took the plunge. I upgraded the ubuntu system, that I used since 8.04LTS first came out, to 10.04.1LTS.
BIG mistake.
The two huting issues for my Dell Latitude D400 were:
1. The wireless network didn't cooperate until I installed some restricted package available on the Live CD.
2. The Intel 82852/855 GM/GME doesn't work unless I went ahead and used VESA with 8-bit depth. 
Bad news.
Does anyone have a SIMPLE workaround for the GRAPHICS issue so that my resolution experience improves to 24-bit depth?
There are other problems, but I'll leave those out of the "picture" ;-)  for now!
