[Bug 532047] Re: Plymouth text-mode splash causes X to crash on first run due to shared tty7
FWIW: I've started running with my own naive modification of
/etc/init/gdm.conf, to see whether it changes symptoms. Here the diff (I
use etckeeper with git, so this is git diff output):

At least the first reboot after this change was (a) very quick (b)
