** Description changed:

  After a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04.1 and up-to-date system I opened
  "Hardware Drivers" to install ATI proprietary drivers. After
  "activation" it started to download the driver but failed with message :
- "SystemError: installArchives() failed"
+ "SystemError: installArchives() failed". I also noticed in synaptic that
+ fglrx* packages were installed. But when I rebooted there was just a
+ purple screen even though the sound of login screen was loud and clear
