Hi, Sorry for the delay in reply (family illness). Please see attached
xev file and screenshot of mouse settings as requested. However the
synclient exercise gave an error and an empty file was created:

stuart@stuart-laptop:~$ synclient -m >~/synclient
synclient: option requires an argument -- 'm'
Usage: synclient [-s] [-m interval] [-h] [-l] [-V] [-?] [var1=value1 [var2=value2] ...]

trying to supply an interval without a file redirect (to see what happened):
stuart@stuart-laptop:~$ synclient -m 10 
Can't access shared memory area. SHMConfig disabled?

Please advise further if required
