Hey Guys,

 I'm having this exact issue and haven't been able to figure out what's
wrong:

$ apt-cache policy nvidia-settings
nvidia-settings:
  Installed: 195.36.08-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 195.36.08-0ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 195.36.08-0ubuntu2 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

$ apt-cache policy nvidia-173
nvidia-173:
  Installed: 173.14.22-0ubuntu11
  Candidate: 173.14.22-0ubuntu11
  Version table:
 *** 173.14.22-0ubuntu11 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/restricted Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

$ uname -a
Linux desktop 2.6.32-24-generic #43-Ubuntu SMP Thu Sep 16 14:17:33 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

Also, I did sudo lshw -html > http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6920165/lshw.html

I hope I can get this fixed!!! <3 Ubuntu!
