Update: Tried hibernatiing. No go.

System crashes. 10.10 RC, at least, does *not* like my VIAO. I'll hold
out until the official release and try again. If any among the pros
would like to work on the problem, let me know. If the official release
doesn't provide some minimal Suspend functionality, I'll be going back
to 10.04 or a possibly Fedora (if only for the sake of Hibernation &
Suspend).
