[Bug 654649] [NEW] Can not set screen to lower resolution

Binary package hint: yelp
Sir,
I installed Ubuntu 10.10 using i386 DVD downloaded on 04 Oct 2010.
Default resolution after installation is 1280x1024(5x4).
I clicked System-> preferences -> Monitors and tried all lower resolutions.
The resultant screen shows a split screen rather than full proper screen.
Screen shot is attached.
This needs to be looked into.
Regards,
Satish
