[Bug 656439] Re: package fglrx 2:8.780-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: fglrx kernel module failed to build
I suspected that because the process building the fglrx-module always
died with an error related to a "Kbuild"-file. This file did not
actually exist in the PAE-tree but as a symlink to the regular kernel
sources. Nevertheless, in my case, there was merely this link and no
file at the linked spot :-/
So, second attempt: clean install without selecting any further options (updates while installing, 3rd party sources, etc.), reboot, getting all updates. I removed the PAE-headers, installed generic kernel headers and re-installed PAE-headers. I am not an expert, but I thought it would be a fine idea to make sure there are some files to which files from the PAE might symlink :-)
Now, a click on the "restricted drivers available" symbol yielded nothing but the well-known crash. Though, I was able to install fglrx via CLI (# apt-get install fglrx). Let's see whether the initial problem can be avoided this way. Thanks anyway.
