Hi Folks, I'm currently having this problem following an upgrade from
10.04 to 10.10beta. The latest update of nvidia-173 in the beta repos,
173.14.28-0ubuntu1, writes the following into the log file:

[ 376.793] (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module! Please ensure
[ 376.793] (EE) NVIDIA(0): that there is a supported NVIDIA GPU in this system, and
[ 376.793] (EE) NVIDIA(0): that the NVIDIA device files have been created properly.
[ 376.793] (EE) NVIDIA(0): Please consult the NVIDIA README for details.
