after another restart, i got a kernel panic. something about VFS not
syncing. kernels 2.6.35.21, 20, 19 all gave me a black screen after the
ubuntu splash. had to revert to generic display drivers in order to use
2.6.35.21. kernel 2.6.35.22 still panics
