SLI, triple display panels running Xinerama. Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick
Meerkak; updated from 10.04 LTS via update-manager -d. All applications
mentioned below ran without problems earlier.

When attempting to run VLC, QCAD and Sun VirtualBox (WinXP), displays
blank out and system returns to login screen; no option to file bug
report offered or crash identified.
