  OS: Lucid Lynx
  
  When the "Routine Disk Check" reached near completion, the screen ceased
  to display anything and appears to have frozen.  However, I ssh'ed into
  my computer with the frozen display and was able to function normally,
  and when I checked the processes, no other processes seemed to be
  running, particularly any X-related processes or gdm.
  
  I then executed a remote reboot and the computer rebooted normally
  (since it did not perform another disk check).
