I've had the same infuriating problem for the last few months.

I don't use tvtime any more, but the old version of Kaffeine, 0.8.8. Recompiling it without HAVE_XTEST
it apparently works (i haven't seen the Shift_L in xev for a while). Let's hope for the best.
