I have tried every combination possible of...

* latest nvida driver from nvida page
* nvidia-173 from repositories
* >nvidia-173 from repositories

with

* 2.6.32-25-generic
* 2.6.36-1 from kernel team ppa
* 2.6.37-3-generic from kernel team ppa

only 2.6.32-25 with nvidia-173 from repositories seems to work for me

(i was not able to install nvidia-173 with kernel 2.6.37-3-generic tho)
