[Bug 675765] Re: Screen corrupted after boot (white vertical bars)

Yes, I can read that from the log too.

1) when this kernel module was built against the wrong or improperly configured kernel sources

I'm not sure about the other modules, but the nvidia module within the
.run package was built on my own computer, and I have proper kernel
headers installed. The compiler appears to be linking these as well
according to the log. So this is a no.

i A linux-headers-2.6.35-22-generic

2) with a version of gcc that differs from the one used to build the target kernel

No. My gcc version matches the version that was used to compile the
kernel.

#gcc --version
gcc (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.4.4-14ubuntu5) 4.4.5

>From bootlog:
[ 0.000000] Linux version 2.6.35-22-generic (buildd@vernadsky) (gcc version 4.4.5 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.4.4-14ubuntu5) ) #35-Ubuntu SMP Sat Oct 16 20:36:48 UTC 2010 (Ubuntu 2.6.35-22.35-generic 2.6.35.4)

3) or if a driver such as rivafb, nvidiafb, or nouveau is present and prevents the NVIDIA kernel module from obtaining ownership of the NVIDIA graphics device(s)

Okay, some of these drivers seem to be present, but I'm not sure whether
they're actually preventing anything. If a module is loaded, does that
count as preventing?

4) or NVIDIA GPU installed in this system is not supported by this NVIDIA Linux graphics driver release.

It's unusual that a device would suddenly become unsupported in a driver
update. Besides, I'm pretty sure my GPU is supported because I managed
to put the driver into a working state at one point. Also, my GPU is
listed among the supported models according to nVidia.

------------

Well from the looks of it #3 seemed the most likely scenario. I have
found a guide on ubuntu forums and followed the instructions
(*especially* post #35).

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?s=dec885d9607339dcff6dba8c9b477bd5&t=1467074

This allowed me to finally install the driver you provided.
Unfortunately I am still getting the white screen corruption as pictured
in my first post. After the drivers were purged I was able to boot into
a working console.

Suggestions?
