I just recently joined the UY, but it seems I joined at the wrong time. From
what I have gathered from my infrequent trips to the IRC I joined right
around the same time as a change in leadership that wasn't going too
smoothly. Forgive me if that's not entirely accurate as my joining the IRC
has become more and more spread out due to lack of activity.
Now, I don't know how the UY was organized before but what I was hoping for
when I joined was a youth-lead club that lead up to joining the actual
Ubuntu Team. We could take on small projects, and members would be
encouraged to contribute to Ubuntu through their strengths with possibly a
little more support and guidance. Members of the UY could be challenged by
both the UY leadership and other members to do what they thought they could,
and then a little more, learning all the way.  We would slowly become full
Ubuntu contributers, but with slightly less comitment and expectations
towards quality and an emphasis on learning and growing as developers,
computer artists, debuggers, and Ubuntu members.

What I'm trying to say is that the Ubunu Youth shouldn't just be a place to
hang out and chat with young *untu users (all though there's nothing wrong
with that), but the Ubuntu Youth could and SHOULD be a place to grow and
train the next generation of *untu developers.

If I were to see these kinds of changes, I would be proud to say that I were
a member of the UY. However, as it curently stands, it just looks like
another off-topic chatroom.

I mean all my opinions humbly and respectfully, but I do ask that take these
things into consideration for the future success of the Ubuntu Youth.
