Hi all

I was contacted last Friday by the Student Societies Council regarding
representation and renewal of student society status for the Maties
Ubuntu group. As I will be graduating (hopefully) this year, I would
like to ask if anyone would be up to taking over the leadership for
the society. The main reason I'm asking like this is that the
Societies Camp, where all the leaders of all the societies gather,
will be taking place 10-12 September, and next years Maties Ubuntu
leader should preferably attend. However, the deadline for signing up
for the camp is this Monday 8 am (!!!). Therefore, if you are
interested in this role, please reply ASAP.

You responsibilities as a leader is mainly

- Maintain the Ubuntu Wiki (ubuntu.sun.ac.za)
- Maintain the Launchpad page and the PPA (packaging of 'local'
software like Pynetkey, PAC files and the SUN latex template was
started at last Global CodeJam).
- Help the ISR/Maties Community Service Computer Redistribution
Project with installing and setting up Ubuntu on the donated
computers.
- Help the Ubuntu ZA loco with organizing local release parties and Ubuntu Hour.
- Have a dialog with IT regarding issues facing Ubuntu and Linux users
on campus.

Of course, you are not expected to do this all by yourself, but rather
be the one who coordinate these things. The benefit to you is all the
karma you get from spreading the adaptation of free software. Also,
having student society leader on your CV looks really good.
