Linux distros neatly fall into about 8 main families; RedHat,
Debian(Ubuntu), openSUSE, Slackware and so on. Although there are more
similarities than differences between the families there are some
differences even inside a family.
".rpm" stands for "RedHat Package Management"
".deb" is short for debian. Ubuntu is in the debian family.
