If you prefer to be in Pidgin only , then fix the yahoo issue by doing
this :

    * Simply go to Applications > Accessories > Terminal and type the
following.

sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com

Add Pidgin Launchpad Repo

    * Goto System > Administration > Software Sources and select Third
Party Software tab. Now click the Add button and enter the repo address
given below.

 deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/pidgin-developers/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

Upgrade to Pidgin 2.5.7

    * Simply do the following in terminal.

       sudo apt-get update
       sudo apt-get upgrade
