[Question #76689]: Dell S1909WX monitor resolution w/ Ubuntu 9.04

New question #76689 on xorg in ubuntu:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+question/76689

I'm retrying this question after some (unsuccessful) effort to resolve (I had a previous question submitted to Launch Pad).

My Dell S1909WX wide screen monitor has the recommended resolution of 1404x900 75Hz. The Ubuntu 9.04 Display pref. panel has this resolution, however, when I do apply this resolution... I get what appears to be noise lines that look something like double images... that move with any activity from cpu, spaced apart... making both the 75Hz & 60Hz (less "bad") unusable. I checked into the x.org wiki page, got some information regarding the xorg.conf & modeline (mine, which I got from my Windows XP setup (I do dual boot) & the recommended program "PowerStrip" is apparently:
 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
PowerStrip timing parameters:

1440x900=1440,112,152,200,900,3,6,25,106589,2066

Generic timing details for 1440x900:

HFP=112 HSW=152 HBP=200 kHz=56 VFP=3 VSW=6 VBP=25 Hz=60

VESA detailed timing:

PClk=106.59 H.Active=1440 H.Blank=464 H.Offset=96 HSW=152 V.Active=900 V.Blank=34 V.Offset=3 VSW=6

Linux modeline parameters:

"1440x900" 106.589 1440 1552 1704 1904 900 903 909 934 -hsync +vsync
 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Perhaps, if I could decode how to (*exactly*) insert properly, the Linux modeline parameters (into 'xorg.conf' ?) , it might help get my monitor more properly in tune with the SIS intigrated graphics chip (Mobile AMD Athlon(tm) XP-M Processor 3000+)?

I am currently operating the Dell monitor at 1280x800 (16:10)... which minimizes the above stated noise... but does not totally eliminate the problem.

I think an important consideration here is, that when booted into Windows XP, sp3, the monitor works perfectly at the recommended resolution.

Please help...

Thanks much!
