Click on "System", which is on the left of your top panel, then click on
"Administration" and select "StartUp-Manager" from the Administration
menu.
When you click on "StartUp-Manager, the tabs on the screen are: "Boot
Options", "Appearance", "Security" and "Advanced".
Click on the "Boot Options" tab to open it. Under "Misc." near the
bottom of the screen you will find "Show text during boot". Remove the
tick from the square next to it.
Then close.
StartUp-Manager is included by default in Ubuntu 9.04. If you are using
an older version of Ubuntu and you do not have StartUp-Manager
installed, you can do so via a terminal: sudo apt-get install
startupmanager
