Not necessarily. Its used by people to whom Linux suits their needs. We
don't use Linux "just because we can" we use it because we like it but
also because the OS matches our requirements.

Windows has its empire by force and comes pre-installed on systems
galore. But Wndows may not suit the needs of a user and Mac OS may
perform better for them for what the system is to be used for

Ipersonally only chat, browse and convert video from my camcorder to
various formats. I can do all this in Linux without shelling out for the
OS as well as all the tools I use. So why should I when Linux is exactly
the tool I need

I think you need to evaluate why you use certain OSs. Linux isn't in
competition with Microsoft as it has a GPL license and is free. If users
want to use Linux they can. Maybe DVDRAM support will make more users
use it, maybe not but its not a case of trying to get more users as this
doesnt benefit anyone except a few developer egos
