I have two old printers, QMS Magicolor 2 desklaser & dell 720, but I can't use them since I Installed ubuntu 9.04 couple weeks ago. for the magicolor printer I'm using ubuntu drivers, but those simply doesn't work. For the dell printer I downloaded some drivers for Lexmark z600 but unfortunelly didn't  work (when I send a print test page it shows in the printer state: " usr/lib/cups/filter/rastertoz600 failed". 
Any ideas???
