Re: [Question #77022]: Back up
Question #77022 on Ubuntu changed:

Status: Open => Answered
Tom proposed the following answer:
I don't know it but i use my own way of backing things up rather than
relying on other 3rd party apps to do the job. I would try
ActionParsnip's advice. I've vaguely heard of Ghost but i think it was
in a Windows context so i would steer well clear of it, even the one
ported over to linux.
Windows people who then suddenly port their programs over to linux
haven't always quite realised the ethos of and diversity in linux so i
would try to find something that was developed in linux specifically for
linux and i would want to make sure it's properly OpenSource so that if
i have a problem i can submit a bug-report without being fobbed off by
'people that know better than me' and 'act in my best interest while
ignoring what i say' lol.
I have already seen a few changes resulting from bug-reports i have
either submitted myself or been involved with somehow. For example open
any folder that has a lot of items, change view to "compact" and use the
mouse-wheel to roll backwards and forwards, see how different that is
from the Windows style? It looks like a trivial issue but used to
really annoy me in Windows, here in Ubuntu the dev quickly sussed out
what was troubling me, created a patch and then integrated it into the
main release!
So really i would recommend trying "partimage" (as AP said it) or i would do a search in "Synaptic Package Manager" to see what native linux programs are designed to do this sort of thing in linux

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
