https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+question/76916

    Status: Open => Needs information

Steven Danna requested for more information:
Perhaps a more clear description of the current situation will help the
situation.

>From what I understand, the following is the situation:

1) If you go to the Applications menu on the panel, there are no applications listed htere.
2) The NetworkManager applet is no longer being displayed. (This is the applet that allows you to connect to wireless and wired networks.)
3) You are able to launch gnome-terminal by using Alt+F2

Can you confirm that the following three points are correct? If they
are not, can you give a description of what you are experiencing.

Also, can you do the following:

1) Open a terminal (using Alt+F2) as above.
2) Run the following commands:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get autoremove

3) Please copy and paste any errors you receive when running the above
command in your next message here.
