actionparsnip proposed the following answer:
You can use samba to share the folders on the system, the client systems
will then be able to save data to it via a mapped network drive.

You can then right click the my documents icon on the desktop of the XP
systems and move it to the shared folder on the NAS, Windows will offer
to move the data to the NAS to save you a bother.

Is this what you mean?
