Yes it is! In this new era linux/ubuntu has become very user friendly
and you will not have a problem. The best is No viruses and a lot of
free software! For your requirements you say above its perfect! Be aware
though that if you want to play games you should NOT use linux. And if
something doesnt work out of the box dont get dissapointed quickly. Make
your question to the ubuntu guru's or search the web and you will find
your answer.( About office you have in ubuntu Open Office,for skype you
download version for linux.Be carefull to choose/buy a web camera thats
supported from ubuntu.)
