Paul van Deursen is still having a problem:
My terminal, for easier access, is already on my desktop. When I use the ls -ls command 
this is the answer

pvd@pvd-desktop:~$ ls -ls

When I use the search for files option this is the answer
/home/pvd/Desktop/GoogleEarthLinux.bin
