[Question #77810]: Where to find CDC/ACM modules for Ubuntu 8.04

New question #77810 on Ubuntu:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/77810

On an older, donated PC of a friend who does not have much money, is very much alone and wants to use an inexpensive dialup ISP to be able to communicate by e-mail and to surf the net, I have installed Ubunbtu 8.04, and I also provided him with a USB modem by USrobotics, # 5637 which claims on it's box that it will work with Linux. However, Ubuntu does not recognize this modem and the Quick Installation Guide by USR requires that the CDC/ACM modules be incorporated into the kernel. Now, where does one get these modules and how are they to be incorporated into the kernel of Ubuntu ? I contacted US Robotics about this but they are of no help since they are not interested as a corporation to get involved in Ubuntu/ Linux because there are too many distributions around.

If you are in any way able to help to get this old gentlemen on the net inexpensively, we would be very grateful.
