Tom proposed the following answer:
I can't believe i played the whole of a YouTube video just to see if it
would crash my system1 & it was TopGear!!?! rofls. It played fine on my
exceptionally average system.
If you have installed components to watch flash movies there might be a clash between some of them if you have installed particular combinations. Have you installed "gnash", "swfplayer" and "adobe-non-free" (i'm not sure about the exact name of this last one). Perhaps use synaptic package manager to look for and uninstall all flash-players and then work through the medibuntu guide.
Ok, so i am wondering if you have run through this guide for sorting out almost all your multimedia
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu
this should help. I tend to go with non-free components and am still waiting for some codec people to ask me to pay a licencing fee. hopefully i will manage to go completely OpenSource before they start bothering me.
Another thing that might be causing you problems is having one of the
drivers installed for an old ati card. At the moment it seems best to
avoid all ati drivers, both the OpenSource & proprietary ones! On ultra
new cards from Ati, the 4000 series is great but anything prior to that
seems a bit broken at the moment.
Also i was wondering if you can watch normal video or do you get
irritating flashes through to the desktop? If so there's a neat work-
around so please let us know
Good luck with this!
Regards from
Tom :)
