I am wondering if there are any serious plans to develop a complete Cobol Platform for Ubuntu?
This question is from my 20+ years experience as Cobol Programmer and also this wonderful article about Cobol:

If Ubuntu/Linux is ever going to compete with Windows then the financial world must be able to port their existing business applications to a new platform with no risk of bankruptcy! I know there are some projects like OpenCobol  and other, but porting existing Cobol programs into C is simply not an option. Cobol is bulletproof from memory leak, and converting functional and tested Cobol is simply not an option. It is what keep the financial world alive today and be sure it is Cobol applications that keep our bank accounts functional and alive. Maybe with some other languages like Java to have an Internet dialog with your bank, but the bottom line is Cobol w/DB2 sql and other Databases.
This is my concern about Linux/Ubuntu and the wonderful world of Free and Open
I have used Ubuntu for maybe 8 years now and I really love it. Thanks to the clever and skilled developers I can write and post this from an outdated iMac with PowerPc processor. Now it is Ubuntu Computer!
