Re: [Question #77841]: Trying to install Ubuntu 9.04 server edition on IBM Xseries 342 server

Question #77841 on Ubuntu changed:

    Status: Open => Answered

Tom proposed the following answer:
Try downloading the 32bit version of ubuntu instead of the 64bit version ;)
See the radio selection buttons at the very bottom of the page here
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download-server

Note that server edition doesn't have a gui desktop, it runs entirely
from the command-line. You might be better off with the desktop edition
and then add some server functionality to that.

The question really is how many machines are you trying to network
together through this machine? If it's only 2 or 3 then desktop edition
is fine if it's hundreds of machines you might be better off with CentOs
instead of Ubuntu but Ubuntu server edition should be good for 5 to 50
machines i would guess.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
