[Question #77867]: All sound lost in dell mini 12 ubuntu 8.04
New question #77867 on Ubuntu:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/77867
Hi,
I've recently lost all sound drivers in Ubuntu 8.04, Dell mini 12 - possibly after an upgrade. Previously it worked well. Now there is no /dev/snd/ and reinstallation of alsa packages and gstreamer plus modprobe and reboot failed to fix the problem I do have a recognised soundcard as follows:
lspci | grep -i audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation System Controller Hub (SCH Poulsbo) HD Audio Controller (rev 06)
After reinstalling modules as follows I thought the problem would be fixed,
sudo apt-get install linux-ubuntu-modules-$(uname -r)
But no! The modules are all there but sound is not working.
find /lib/modules/`uname -r` | grep snd
/lib/modules/2.6.24-24-lpia/ubuntu/snd-bt-sco.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.24-24-lpia/ubuntu/sound/alsa-driver/isa/sb/snd-sb-common.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.24-24-lpia/ubuntu/sound/alsa-driver/isa/sb/snd-sb16-dsp.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.24-24-lpia/ubuntu/sound/alsa-driver/i2c/snd-cs8427.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.24-24-lpia/ubuntu/sound/alsa-driver/i2c/other/snd-pt2258.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.24-24-lpia/ubuntu/sound/alsa-driver/i2c/other/snd-tea575x-tuner.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.24-24-lpia/ubuntu/sound/alsa-driver/i2c/other/snd-ak4114.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.24-24-lpia/ubuntu/sound/alsa-driver/i2c/other/snd-ak4xxx-adda.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.24-24-lpia/ubuntu/sound/alsa-driver/i2c/snd-i2c.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.24-24-lpia/ubuntu/sound/alsa-driver/synth/snd-util-mem.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.24-24-lpia/ubuntu/sound/alsa-driver/synth/emux/snd-emux-synth.ko
... (lots of other modules but none which look like Pouslbo chip, unless its masquerading as another name)...
Am I right in suspecting this is a Poulsbo issue? Or is there some other problem I am missing. It would be nice to get Amarok back in business.
thanks M
