[Question #77933]: Display resolution error led to myself removing critical synaptic package apps; sys lost boot function - cannot restart
New question #77933 on Ubuntu:
https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/77933
Binary package hint: nautilus
I was using AbiWord processor. I could not insert a picture from my archive. I then went to the administration and started adding plug ins and was adding apps. I added some kernel apps that the system advised me to ignore. These apps are confusing, when a user who is used to Windows get incompatibility messages when they install programs.
I added an app that said it used the MBR or master boot record of dos based programs. I have formatted my hard drive and erased any mbr, unless this program tried to read a partially erased one. This may have been the problem.
I added these programs and rebooted the computer. My screen high resolution function went to 800 by 600. I could not navigate well. My AbiWord still did not insert pictures. I decided to remove the apps that I added. I may have removed a critical file app. My system needs a restore function. I will be much more careful in the future.
