Vihar proposed the following answer:
One should start KDE applications (e.g. the default Kubuntu graphical
environment) in Gnome environment without problems, they say. Whwn you
launch them adjust the font size going to the menu of the application,
clicling on "Edit" then on Preferences" and look there for a tab with
the font settings. Once chosen the font size should be the same at the
next session(s).
