Question #65865 on alsa-driver in ubuntu changed:

Mike Oliver posted a new comment:
Hi Luky:
I have just had to re-install Ubuntu on to my notebook after an abortive
attempt at up-dating the OS and some other applications which froze the
whole thing. Having done this, I re-attempted the update, this time
successfully) however it seems, once again, to have hidden, damaged or
otherwise blocked access to my audio card.
Unfortunately, I can not recall what I had to do last time and can not
locate the line I need to enter into a terminal session to recover
access to the audio facilities. Could you please remind me so that I can
get everything back to normal?
Thanks,
Mike
