Question #77961 on Ubuntu changed:

Tom proposed the following answer:
Hmm, i wonder if you are somehow not installing Ubuntu using this method
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootFromCD
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsDualBoot
Note that i am recommending keeping a working Windows on your system for
a little while longer. Even though it's annoying, slow and vulnerable
none of it's problems should affect a linux installed as above. It
takes a while to get used to Ubuntu and you might find it handy to be
able to go back into Windows to do those odd things until you have
Ubuntu set up righ and have got used to using it.
Also there are these guides to help you with Ubuntu. The first is a worksheet to work all the way through to set-up almost all your multimedia
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu
and this one is for dipping into occasionally
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SwitchingToUbuntu/FromWindows
Wiping things out, burning your bridges behind you and strategies like
that are very much of the Windows world, in linux we prefer to
incrementally evolve to a much better systems and work with existing
systems imo, ime
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
