sudo update-manager -d
now says the package information was last updated 182 days ago!
This seems to be an ongoing problem that'll be hard to crack, so I think I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and install 9.04 from scratch and then re-install the various programs I use. It is not my main computerr so that wouldn't be too onerous a task.
What I would like to get hold of is a decent book about Ubuntu Linux - I
really do not get on at all well with on-line documentaion.
