[Question #78029]: SMARTLINK MODEM iS NOT DETECTING

i'm a ubuntu 9.04 user, i have a SMARTLINK internal modem
which is working properly in windows'xp but in ubuntu 9.04
when i write wvdialconf in the terminal i got the message:

Scanning your serial ports for a modem.
WvModem<*1>: Cannot set information for serial port.
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 2400 baud, next try: 9600 baud
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 9600 baud, next try: 115200 baud
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- and failed too at 115200, giving up.
Modem Port Scan<*1>: S1 S2 S3
Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program?
Did you configure it properly with setserial?

then i install the slmodem-2.9.11-20080126.tar.gz and ran the command:
sudo slmodemd -c INDIA --alsa hw:0,6
and i got the following result
error: mixer setup: Off-hook switch not found for card hw:0
error: alsa setup: cannot open playback device 'hw:0,6': No such file or directory
error: cannot setup device `hw:0,6'

WHAT SHOULD I DO TO DETECT THE MODEM .
