Tom proposed the following answer:
LiveCd is usually used as the general term that includes LiveUsb and other more recent options. It might help to use these guides for developing a persistent image, also putting your /home folder on it's own partition might be something worth considering although i'm not sure you have a lot of choice given the space available on the sd-card.
