[Question #78196]: how to connect wireless broadband in ubuntu desktop 9.04

i am using windows and ubuntu on same laptop as two different operating system..i have a wireless broadband of BSNL which is set on "AUTOMATIC DETECTION AND CONNECTION"..in windows it detects and connects properly, the only prob is that the IP address were set manually once and then it was never needed to change them..when i installed ubuntu on VMware then it properly connected the wireles and i was able  to acess the net but after i instally ubuntu DEsktop 9.04 version then it just detects the wireless connection,says connected ( same story if connected through ethernet cable) but i am not able to browse the web..i tried entering the IP address manually but it didnt work..i am not able to get the solution from any of the other answered question regarding this..can u please help me in a proper step wise procedure to solve the catch..
