marcobra (Marco Braida) proposed the following answer:
The latest Ubuntu stable release is the Ubuntu 9.04 "Jaunty Jackalope" 
the Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala" is the develop release of Ubuntu now in alpha 3 stage.

So i suggest you to install the Ubuntu 9.04 Desktop the so called "Jaunty Jackalope" you need to download the 
Ubuntu 9.04 desktop standard 32 bit from here http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
